TENS OF THOUSANDS OF WEST CHESHIRE RESIDENTS TO JOIN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
Jubilee fever will sweep West Cheshire this weekend with tens of thousands of people expected to join the celebrations.
Approximately 37,000 people are estimated to come together at more than 210 officially registered events to celebrate The Queen’s 60 years on the throne.
And many thousands more are expected to join in informal and private Jubilee parties across the Borough.
Of the events registered with Cheshire West and Cheshire Council, approximately 50 are street parties.
And the borough will play host to 20 of the 4,000 Diamond Jubilee Beacons that will be lit around the world on Monday (June 4).
Councillor Lynn Riley, Executive Member for Community and Environment, said: “As an authority, we have worked hard to support our communities with their plans to commemorate this once in a generation occasion of our Queen’s 60-year reign.
“It is wonderful to see the bunting already going up in our towns and villages and by this weekend our borough will be awash with all things red, white and blue.
“As well as more than 50 street parties, there is a wonderful range of celebrations taking place, ranging from park fetes and football tournaments to firework displays and music concerts.”
Community groups were required to register their event with the Council if they required a road closure – for which the fee was waived – or wished to apply for a £100 grant.
The number of registered events across the extended weekend is as follows (a small number have already taken place):
Friday: 5
Saturday: 29
Sunday: 75
Monday: 51
Tuesday: 20
Registered events are spread across the borough as follows:
Chester area: 52
Ellesmere Port area: 35
Northwich area: 32
Winsford area: 14
Frodsham area: 17
Rural areas: 48
Councillor Riley added: “The Government set a goal to involve 10 percent of the population in the Jubilee celebrations.
“This translates to 36,000 people in West Cheshire, a figure we are well on course to exceed – quite possibly by some way.”
Advance notification signs have been put up on roads that will be closed for street parties. A list can be found online at www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/your_council/public_notices.aspx
